[原创]西长安街的灰墙

<p>新华门对面的灰墙，建于1913年袁世凯任大总统期间。</p>

<p>当时由临时国会决定以中南海为大总统府的所在地，特在西长安街开辟坐北朝南的总统府正门。这就是现在的新华门开辟的原始。开辟新华门是经过了一番周密考虑的。当时有人主张采用西式建筑式样，有人则主张要古老风格。最后商定因地制宜，就把这座宝月楼利用上了。至于门的命名，因正阳门（前门）内的皇城正门原称做“大清门”的，改称“中华门”；同时就把新辟的总统府正门，定名为“新华门”；了（正阳门内原有的“中华门”与长安街的东西三座门，于解放后拆除）。</p>

<p><strong>新华门对面是长安街南侧的一带民房，高高低低，参差不齐，很不好看。虽然经过拆平补齐的一番整理，还是不够整齐。于是在东起南长街西至府右街的马路南侧，修筑起一道长约数百米的青砖外罩水泥围墙。这围墙墙面的设计，上段为曲线竖棂形象，下段则用起“鼓子”，每隔数米作一截段。这种格式的墙，在当时算是中西合璧，是很别致的。这道围墙直到现在还有绝大部分原样保留着。</strong></p>
